In Cross River State, South-South Nigeria – Elephants have gone rogue wreaking havoc on the region’s farmlands and terrorizing local communities.
In a series of violent encounters, these massive creatures have trampled farmers underfoot and caused widespread panic, resulting in multiple fatalities.
The elephants, once a symbol of grace, have become a deadly force, invading farms and towns, their destructive behavior escalating with each passing day.
Armed with tusks and powerful trunks, they have not only destroyed crops but have also killed residents, impaling them with their trunks or trampling them underfoot.
The attacks are so brutal that farmers are now fleeing their homes, abandoning fields they have tended for years, terrified by the looming threat.
A federal legislator representing the constituency has condemned the violence, confirming reports from locals that the elephants’ rampage has driven citizens to the brink of desperation.
“These animals are attacking the people with increasing frequency, and farmers are forced to flee their homes out of fear,” the legislator said. “The situation is dire, and the safety of our people is at risk.”
With the government struggling to find solutions, residents are left in anguish, caught between the wrath of nature and the uncertainty of their futures.
The government has yet to take significant steps to address the deadly conflict between wildlife and the human populations in the area.
As tensions rise and the elephant menace continues unchecked, the communities of Cross River State are calling for immediate intervention before more lives are lost to the relentless attacks of these wild beasts.
